We’ve been at this long enough to know that even though the five cops accused of murdering Tyre Nichols in Memphis are black, the topic of white supremacy would come into play. This editor thought they’d blame “whiteness,” and that their police training was developed from the perspective of whiteness. Even blacks can be corrupted by it because it underpins our society.
CNN’s Van Jones wrote that the beating “might have been caused by racism.” An “expert” told MSNBC that Republicans in Congress were to blame, even though Democrats continually shot down Sen. Tim Scott’s police reform legislation. And back in 2021, CBS News turned to “1619 Project” creator Nikole Hannah-Jones to trace modern policing back to slave patrols.
Activist Bree Newsome, backed up by Jemele Hill, argues that the function of the police is to maintain the race/class hierarchy:
Diversifying the police force doesn’t end racism because racism is inherent to the organization of the institution & its daily operation. Racism is what policing is

The white owner class is not policed or surveilled because the function of police is to maintain the race/class hierarchy & protect only the property of the wealthy, not the property of the poor which they regularly damage

I need so many people to understand this regarding Tyre Nichols. Several of the police officers who murdered Freddie Gray were Black. The entire system of policing is based on white supremacist violence. We see people under the boot of oppression carry its water all the time. https://t.co/H11cuzHPxC

Ad there it is: Democrats never said they wanted to defund the police. Also, they believe the entire system of policing is based on white supremacist violence.
You've just become so obsessed with racism that you twist everything around to find some excuse to call it racism. You're the real-life version of that meme, except you apply it to black Americans, too. pic.twitter.com/KjPNROUqrv

You continue to awe people as the absolute dumbest person to have ever worked at ESPN behind Keith Olbermann.

The Memphis police chief is a black woman, the officers are all black men who committed violence against a young black man.
Tell me again how this is white supremacy policies? #TyreNichols

What if, and hear me out, black cops doing bad things isn't "white supremacy," but it's cops doing bad things? Which happens in countries across the world that include all different races.
I realize challenges your ridiculous simplistic worldview, but give it some thought.

She would have no way to play victim if that was the case. (In her head)

All I saw on my screen was “Jemele Hill” 🙄

Or it’s not about race at all.
Of course, there’s not much money or fame to milk from that simple reality.

First off, nobody murdered Freddie Gray. A black judge known for his advocacy in the Civil Rights realm laughed the activist prosecutor out of court twice. Those officers are innocent.
Secondly, nobody believes this was racist.

The officers in Baltimore were acquitted or the charges were dropped. A black judge oversaw the cases.
A young inexperienced black female DA brought charges against them as a political stunt. She is now out of office, facing federal charges and 20 years in prison if convicted. pic.twitter.com/OeHb9lWQnl

Man, does this editor remember covering the Freddie Gray riots in Baltimore. That was a warzone.
I'm sorry, they were all black. And this was a horrible crime.

We need to realize that the whole institution of policing was built on white supremacist ideas, and blacks who choose to join the police just further immerse themselves in white supremacy culture. That’s why it doesn’t matter that all five were black.
