Van Jones tells CNN that 'grandpa-in-chief' Joe Biden is missing a big opportunity

We had to reach back to 2013 for this one, but appearing on behalf of “Demand a Plan to End Gun Violence,” comedian Chris Rock said he was there to support President Barack Obama. “The president of the United States is, you know, our boss,” Rock explained. “But he’s also, you know, the president and the first lady are kind of like the mom and the dad of the country. And when your dad says something, you listen.”

We could certainly list plenty of reasons why the president is neither “our boss” nor “the dad of the country.” But now Obama adviser Van Jones has deemed President Joe Biden our “grandpa-in-chief” on CNN.

That wasn’t our granda who was clenching his fists on a blood-red stage flanked by Marines.

RealClearPolitics reports that Jones said:

I still think he’s missing a big opportunity because if you think that the reason people are going in the Trump direction, these extreme directions, is because these are just bad people, terrible people, dumb people, mean people, you can write them off. But if you’re Joe Biden, you’ve got to know, it’s deeper than that.

You’ve got grief out there. You’ve got fear out there. And when people are grieving the America they thought they were going to get, or the life they thought they were going to have, they can make bad decisions. When people are scared of the future and they’re scared of what’s happening, they can make bad decisions. And I think that Joe Biden’s core empathy, his ability to relate to some of these very voters, is something that he needs to dial back up.

You need the grandpa-in-chief to continue to sit people down [and say], “Vote against me, that’s fine. What Joe Biden should be saying is, guys, I’m not even asking you guys to become Democrats. I want you to become Republican again. I want you to actually be true to your best values. You are the party of Lincoln. You are the party of Jack Kemp. I want to work with you, be your best self. I’ll fix my party. I’ve got nuts in my party, but you’ve got to be better in your own party.”

We keep hearing people trying to sell us on Biden’s “core empathy” but we’re not buying. The man’s been in politics for 50 years — we know who he is.

Which makes us ask yet again … has Biden ever acknowledged his most recent grandchild? Hunter’s child? Have they ever met? He can’t even keep track of how many grandchildren he has in real life.
