There was a lot The Dispatch’s David French didn’t like about President Joe Biden’s speech Thursday night, but …. (Of course, you knew there was going to be a but.) French has argued before that redefining the word “groomer” was done out of pure malice. (The equally righteous Matthew Dowd did him one better by declaring that Jesus would be called a groomer today.) French has gone to the mat for the First Amendment right to Drag Queen Story Hour as well. So he’s sensing a certain energy from the “OK groomer” crowd getting upset by words like “semi-fascist.”
There was a lot I didn’t like about Biden’s speech, but when the “OK groomer” crowd gets mad about his tone, or the folks who are constantly calling Democrats “communists” and even “demonic” get upset about words like “semi-fascist,” I’m sensing a certain kind of energy: pic.twitter.com/3iLn5yz0Tf

It takes real talent to dismiss Biden's speech by condemning parents who are legitimately concerned their children are being nudged into self-mutilation by teachers who want to hide it from the parents. https://t.co/RQICi7VFwN

The problem with David’s tweet is that he’s discounting very real and legitimate criticism of Biden’s authoritarian & divisive speech simply because he doesn’t like *the people* levying that criticism; nothing they say could ever possibly be correct. Principles first indeed.

Is it possible that – and hear me out here – you don’t understand the difference between the Office of the President of the United States and Twitter?

Could you tell us what you didn't like about it other than the lighting, I presume?
— (((Not That Crown, Maybe))) (@CrownMaybe) September 3, 2022
What didn’t you like exactly? Can you muster the courage or integrity necessary to be specific?

I have watched over the past year as you and many other on both sides of the isle have gone from moderate to excuse makers for both sides. You excuse the left while scolding the right. I started following you because you seemed balanced somehow you have shifted. All bout the 💵🤷♂️
— A.J. (@Beakins7) September 3, 2022
Interesting. You failed to mention anything about the speech.
— marnes (@marnes) September 3, 2022
There's a power disparity there, you know.
— Jeff Jaeger (@jaegerjs) September 3, 2022
Wait, so you're cool with name calling now? What a surprise.
— Amphibious Rodent (@inthecitylimits) September 3, 2022
Well it's a democrat doing it. He can't write about a democrat doing it in his weekly "Christians have disappointed me" piece

Biden: “Everybody that opposes me is an enemy of the state”
David French: “Well Republicans say mean things too”— JPG (@2WaysToPlay) September 3, 2022
David Fench engaging in whataboutism is beyond hilarious. It must be grating watching the guy you voted for call those who disagree with his far left policies as enemies of the state.

I don't call people groomers or communists. Do I get to be angry with the speech, hypocrite?
— Boo (@IzaBooboo) September 3, 2022
Nor do I. The speech was unacceptable and anyone remotely on the right needs to be advocating hard for people to take action against it. It’s the same Biden as the “back in chains” Biden and it is poisonous. Full stop, no “but Trump.”

In any serious conflict, I'd much rather have you on the other side.

Are Republicans not supposed to get upset when the president of the United States calls them semi-fascist? We heard plenty of crying from the Left, including French, over the “groomer” tag — literally, the media did tons of pieces on it.
