Bill DeBlasio was bad, but New York City Mayor Eric Adams really seems to just be announcing things on the fly without any consideration of their constitutionality. The New York Post’s Bernadette Hogan reports that Adams was a guest on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Thursday, where he explained that police would be doing “good old fashioned methods of investigation” with regard to people applying for a concealed weapon permit. Maybe your neighbor will get a knock on the door to vouch for you.
.@NYCMayor on @Morning_Joe says background checks for concealed weapons permits will include “good old fashioned methods of doing investigation” for example, police officers will be knocking on the doors of applicants’ neighbors to find out more about their personal histories.

Sounds like a tremendous waste of resources given the crime rate for ccw holders is lower than even the police, but ok. https://t.co/yqfZ25opF9

Has there been a rash of legal gun users committing crimes in NYC? Or is this total nonsense designed to pretend the mayor is "doing something" on gun crime? https://t.co/xCpuWa4Zvl

GP So the "background checks" are going to be subjective and based on random third party's opinions of an individual and or guns?
Man, I can't wait for this to be the process to get an abortion permit. https://t.co/aIGCs0zOsc

To get a CCW/CHP in NYC, your neighbors might soon have to vouch for you on top of regular process (basic background check). 🤦♀️
This is contrary to the Bruen decision. https://t.co/wQi4dC2Bf9

Ironically, the supposedly anti-fascist Dem party will have no problem with the NY Mayor using police officers to intimidate people into not exercising a constitutional right. https://t.co/AKvwVUwtmc

The goal here, clearly, is to create a chilling effect on exercising one's Constitutionally-guaranteed right to bear arms.
There's no historical analog for this.
Since when do we require a neighbor's nod of approval to exercise 1A rights or any other right? https://t.co/XIGuvDuWii— Michele Blood (@BloodBrief) September 1, 2022
The NYPD doesn’t even respond to most 911 calls. You think they are really going to do this? Lol https://t.co/oah2wIp05f

Just think of the exciting new opportunities cops will have to shoot dogs! https://t.co/kfAzeJt2rg

Uh, this is freaking disgusting. And likely a violation of people's rights.
Exercising a constitutional right should not come with an investigation into what your neighbors think of you. https://t.co/enADhe9l3v

It's good that the New York police have so much free time on their hands. https://t.co/msTDrcY4V2

How about they do some "good old fashioned" investigating by "knocking on the doors" of criminals' neighbors instead of hassling law-abiding gun owners? Oh, because the law-abiding will comply whereas criminals won't, so it's much easier to deal with.

They can check and see if you're hiding and Jews while they're there.

Does New York City have a problem with concealed weapons permit holders? Are they the reason for all of the gun crime in the city? What happens when your neighbor happens to be a gun control nut who’s afraid of guns?
