MSNBC says the next slate of January 6 committee hearings may be 'even more revelatory'

In July, during its prime-time broadcast, Rep. Bennie Thompson said the House select committee investigating the January 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol planned to hold more public hearings in September. “We continue to receive new information every day,” Thompson said.

Well, tomorrow is September, and Ja’han Jones, who writes for Joy Reid’s blog, says that this new slate of hearings may be even more revelatory than the first. Why, is Ray Epps going to testify? That would be cool.

We can understand the committee wanting to keep its grift going through the midterms, but we’re really feeling the January 6 fatigue. So what new might we learn? Jones writes:

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, one of two Republicans on the House Jan. 6 committee, on Sunday offered a peek into the upcoming — and potentially final — series of the panel’s public hearings. All signs suggest it’s going to be a doozy.

Based on Kinzinger’s remarks to NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” the next wave of hearings, set to begin in September, will focus on what I’m calling “the cash and the potential cover-up.”

The hearings could address “the fact that a vast majority of this money was raised under ‘Stop the Steal,’ with no intention of doing anything to so-called stop a steal,” Kinzinger said, highlighting a fundraising effort that reportedly netted Team Trump millions of dollars. “It was all about just raising money, and people were abused that way, so there will be a lot more of that.”

“Season one” of the January 6 committee’s public hearings were “eye-opening and earth-shattering,” concludes Jones.

Earth-shattering.

We have to remind ourselves that we’re talking about January 6, 2021. It’s September of 2022 and we’re still trying to find out what happened? Of course not — it’s now just an effort to make sure Donald Trump doesn’t run again.
