We’ve seen this take before from plenty of other progressives, but Ron Filipkowski really manages to cover a lot of ground in just one tweet. Everything the conservatives have been doing about public schools, including those domestic terrorists who showed up at school board meetings, wasn’t to make public schools better … it was all about pushing kids into homeschooling and religious schooling. And we all know what homeschooling is about — it’s about taking children out of the diverse, inclusive public schools and indoctrinating them with white supremacy. Earlier this year, MSNBC warned of the insidious racism behind the American religious right’s “obsession” with homeschooling.
Just in case anyone thought all the CRT, ‘anti-woke,’ ‘patriotic history,’ ‘don’t say gay,’ mask mandate, protests and school board disruptions were about improving public schools, it wasn’t. It’s about pushing kids into home and religious schooling. pic.twitter.com/msHEhbln2G

See?
It wasn’t Florida that shut down public schools for almost two years though. Enrollment in Florida isn’t suffering like it is in other states.

Correct.

Red states kept schools open. It's states like New York & California that have seen record drops in student enrollment.

I'd like to see that number much higher.

And those 2 million are lucky to be able to be homeschooling. The poorer children will be kept compliant with a system designed to break them.

Sir, you need a book on logic and causation v. correlation. The exact opposite of your point is equally true.

I interview applicants for an Ivy, & by far the smartest, most knowledgeable & competent students are those who’ve been home-schooled. Granted, the pool of Ivy applicants is tiny compared w the gen pop of 18 yr olds, but it’s clear to me that home-school kids thrive.

I chose to homeschool during the pandemic because the schools were not prioritizing safety. This year I asked my kids if they wanted to return to public school and they declined. They learn more with me and I can provide individualized education. I'm a former teacher.

This is great news.
Parents get to choose how to educate their children.

Uhhh maybe teachers fighting to keep those public schools closed or under draconian mandates, in some places for YEARS, had something to do with it? Good grief.

Are you saying the public doesn’t have a right to decide how to best educate their children?

In 2020, one Harvard professor recommended a “presumptive ban” on homeschooling, saying it violated children’s rights and encouraged white supremacy.
It may be worth thinking about why so many families are happy to leave the public school system, @RonFilipkowski.
Perhaps their experiences over the past few years may have something to do with all the parental support of school choice.

Progressives are very concerned that fewer students mean less money for the public schools, which will make them suck even worse.
