NPR: Stephen Colbert knew that Republicans would pounce on his production staff being arrested

As Twitchy reported last week, multiple people associated with “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” were arrested and charged with “illegal entry to House office buildings after hours.” Among those arrested was Robert Smigel, the voice of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. Apparently, the show wanted to do a puppet segment outside the offices of Rep. Lauren Boebert and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy … important stuff.

Republicans pounced as Colbert knew they would. Fox News’ Tucker Carlson did a segment on their “non-surrection.” And the rest of us wondered why people were still in jail for “parading” in the Capitol on January 6 but Colbert’s crew breaking in after-hours was no big deal.

NPR, late as usual, did a piece on Colbert and conservative media spreading the false “insurrection” narrative.

NPR reports:

“They weren’t in the Capitol building,” Colbert said Monday night. “And I’m shocked I have to explain the difference — but an insurrection involves disrupting the lawful actions of Congress and howling for the blood of elected leaders, all to prevent the peaceful transfer of power.

“This was first-degree puppetry. Hijinks with intent to goof. Misappropriation of an old Conan bit.”

It was also illegal, but NPR didn’t seem interested in that — the entire piece was dedicated to Colbert telling his side of the story.

Why isn’t the FBI involved here? Why aren’t people in jail?
