Black Lives Matter issues statement, says they could never believe police over a black man like Jussie Smollett

Here’s a great catch by Townhall’s Guy Benson. As you probably know, Jussie Smollet’s trial isn’t going too well for him, with Smollett’s defense attorney wrapping up by asking (rhetorically) if Smollet was “dumb enough to go into Obama’s city and pretend there’s Trump supporters running around with MAGA hats?” Yes, that was the defense admitting that the whole thing was a hoax.

We’ve already reached our verdict, but as Benson points out, Black Lives Matter has issued a statement on the trial, saying that the organization could never believe the police, especially the Chicago Police Department, over Smollett, a black man.

The statement reads, in part:

In an abolitionist society, this trial would not be taking place, and our communities would not have to fight and suffer to prove our worth. Instead, we find ourselves, once again, being forced to put our lives and our value in the hands of judges and juries operating in a system that is designed to oppress us, while continuing to face a corrupt and violent police department, which has proven time and again to have no respect for our lives.

In our commitment to abolition, we can never believe police, especially the Chicago Police Department (CPD) over Jussie Smollett, a Black man who has been courageously present, visible, and vocal in the struggle for Black freedom….

Next time you hear a Democrat suggest that defunding the police was a Republican idea, remind them of their support of Black Lives Matter and read this line to them: “Black Lives Matter will continue to work towards the abolition of police and every unjust system.”

Yes.

And this organization rakes in millions in donations.

At least we don’t foresee any riots when Smollett is found guilty; if it had been televised, maybe, but we don’t even think enough progressives care to get involved in this mess.
