Superintendent of Detroit schools says their curriculum is 'deeply using critical race theory'

We’d like to dedicate this post to all of the people who scour the replies to any tweet alleging that critical race theory is being taught in schools and paste, “Critical race theory is only taught in law schools” in response to every reply. That’s one of the lies that people like Joy Reid run with, while at the same time advocating that CRT be taught in schools, even though, as MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace said after Greg Youngkin’s victory, CRT isn’t real.

To be technical, students aren’t taught critical race theory; rather, critical race theory influences the way they’re taught. And as Christopher Rufo shows, here’s the superintendent of Detroit Public Schools saying that the district was very intentional about embedding critical race theory into social studies, language arts, and other disciplines.

“Students need to understand the truth of history … understand the history of this country, to better understand who they are and about the injustices that have occurred in this country,” is how that clip continues, if you were wondering about the context.

Last year, according to the Washington Post, Michigan settled a lawsuit over literacy in Detroit public schools, where in 2017, only 7 percent of eighth-graders performed at or above the proficient level in reading.
