We thought it was bad enough to see photos of kids in school cafeterias separated by plexiglass panels, but at the Davis Joint United School District in California, students “are required to eat lunch outside at this time due to COVID restrictions.” That’s why schools thoughtfully sent home a rainy day lunch announcement requesting parents to send their kids to school in rain gear and possibly with a change of clothing in their backpacks.
“Due to Covid for some reason, we are forcing your children to eat outside in the rain”@DJUSD this is completely unacceptable. Maybe the cruelty is the point –@sacbee_news @sawsan24 @alldenews @sarahbeth345 pic.twitter.com/7INHTLudsU

Word is that the school district has reversed itself:
Update: the district has reversed course, and will now allow children to eat inside during inclement weather. Thank you all!

Wow! That is so messed up!

Have the administrators and staff eat outside in the rain too.

This is abuse. No other word for it.

This isn’t real life. Tell me this isn’t real life? They’re looking out for their safety by putting them out in the wet and cold?!

When they all get sick from sitting in the cold rain, how exactly will this policy have helped their health and safety?
— 🎃 Jadyn 🎃 (@jadyn_xya) October 19, 2021
Whoever is responsible for this policy better have good data and even better lawyers.

All hell would break loose if this was my children. This is insanity
— Kristen White (@kwhite0221) October 19, 2021
Wait they have to eat outside but can have recess in the classroom? My kids would be pulled from that school so fast. This is madness.

It's 100% real.
— Karol Markowicz (@karol) October 19, 2021
The "nothing matters but COVID" mentality has broken people's brains. How can they do this to little children?!
— Laura G (@LaurasMiscMovie) October 19, 2021
AS IF so many kids are already NOT messed up already …
— Reagan the Doodle (@DoodleReagan) October 19, 2021
I still remember my mother telling me to stay IN from the rain so I don't get sick. Now they're telling kids to go OUT to the rain to avoid getting sick?

I’ve been saying for months, pandemic will be over the minute we stop talking about it. And not the other way around

Let kids follow the Biden model in the cafeterias: walk about maskless – it's just a moment in time! Or the Kerry model on planes – just adjusting it while I read War and Peace! Or the Psaki model in class – no mask if you're focusing on important information.
— Chad West (@Chad_WestReal) October 19, 2021
Don't forget the London Breed model. The kids were just feeling the spirit.
