As you know, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murder and manslaughter in the killing of George Floyd. Michael Tracey notes that in a “60 Minutes” appearance, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison was asked why Chauvin wasn’t charged with a hate crime as well, to which he replied that they didn’t have any evidence the killing was racially motivated.
Asked on 60 Minutes why he didn't charge Derek Chauvin with a hate crime, Minnesota AG Keith Ellison said: "We don't have any evidence that Derek Chauvin factored in George Floyd's race as he did what he did"
Yikes! Looks like Ellison is angling for a Fox News gig ???

We’re frankly surprised Chauvin wasn’t charged with a hate crime, as the national narrative was that the killing was racially motivated. Mollie Hemingway notes that in his comments after the verdict, President Biden made no mistake he thought systemic racism in policing was the root cause.
Prosecution never alleged racism. AG Ellison says there's no evidence of racism. And yet Biden fanned flames after verdict by saying, without evidence, Floyd murder "ripped the blinders off for the whole world to see the systemic racism … that is a stain our nation’s soul" https://t.co/keMpSwnnwC

I think Tracey is being facetious to some degree.

He is, but Hemingway has a point.
Imagine being in Government for five decades, and then standing in front of America, blaming the very system and laws you helped put in place for the troubles at hand.
Yeah, that's the guy I want fixing problems.

You know Ellison combed through every second of video and every document available on Chauvin to find any racial bias he could tie to Mr. Floyd's death.
The fact that he didn't find any evidence is significant.
— Andrea Katherine (@stl_blonde) April 28, 2021
Keith Ellison stated the obvious. Racism was never explicit, although everyone thought they saw it. Intent to kill was never logical, though everyone was convinced it was there. In effect, the whole episode confirmed something everyone felt, but was not borne out by fact.

Last year's months-long tidal wave of rioting, destruction, and murder was all premised on the idea of racist motivation behind the loss of Floyd's life.
Against that backdrop . . . the idea that no evidence exists of such motivation is nothing less than stunning.

But Biden's statement signals courage and compassion. Whether the scourge he is courageously and compassionately fighting may not exist is not relevant to the type of people for whom the statement is inspiring.

Well, Biden read it. His handlers said it.

@JoeBiden is repeating what they tell him to say, meaning the radical left. It is so pathetic and infuriating.

So sick of hearing about "systematic racism" where it doesn't exist. We are definitely divided. Which side is dividing us?

I was shocked to read Ellison’s position earlier today. Still trying to figure his motivation. Of course there wasn’t, and maybe he’s just living up to our legal oath…. I just don’t trust him. Could be to prevent more damage to the state, eventually attract business back.

Critical race theory doesn't permit one to ask whether race was a factor — it is always assumed to be a factor.
— Daniel Jo (@Ostsol) April 28, 2021
Legally no evidence of racism. But Critical Race Theory states no evidence is needed – racism is the natural state of affairs. Mollie’s tweet has racism in it as does mine, if you believe CRT…
That also means there’s no proof for CRT. 0. It starts from conclusion, not thesis.

'Systemic racism' is another narrative that the Dems will not walk back. Same as 'hands up don't shoot' never happened but is still quoted. Also the same as 'mostly peaceful demonstration'.
— Johnny V (@jvman588) April 28, 2021
Chauvin may very well have been motivated by racism, but that fact that not even Ellison tried to prove it in court says a lot. It also says a lot that Biden would use the verdict to reiterate the systemic racism in our justice system.
