The San Francisco Gate’s Dan Gentile says that it’s been pretty easy for him to maintain his hermit lifestyle during California’s lockdown, but for professional reasons — to review “Godzilla vs. Kong” — he left home and went to a movie theater for the first time in a year. Forget about the movie; this piece is all about what it’s like to enter a movie theater in 2021.
It’s really worth reading this, painful as it is. Used to be, pathetic guys like this didn’t exist outside caricature—or dystopian films like Her. It’s so tremendously sad to know people like this exist. https://t.co/8puavYs7dC

We’re guessing from the selfie accompanying the article he knows he sounds a little silly, but still:
Outside the AMC Metreon in SoMa, I lock up my bicycle and swap my lightweight “biking mask” (RIP Uniqlo) with a heavy-duty N95 “inside mask.” From behind me, I hear a man singing Prince’s “Raspberry Beret.” I turn and he says hello and flashes a smile, a welcome gesture, until I realize he isn’t wearing a mask.
…
I’ve embraced a hermit lifestyle the past year, but made a few work exceptions, and this is one of them.
“Did I have fun?” he asks. “Yes. Was I really nervous the whole time? Definitely. But most importantly, would I do it again? It’s complicated.”
I read the first paragraph and then I had to stop. I just couldn't continue.

I couldn't make it pass the 2nd paragraph where he talks about his portable sanitizer

That was painful. I can’t imagine thinking or living like him.

The modern journalist class is composed of the most pathetic, useless shrinking violets imaginable.
These people would starve to death in a moment of actual adversity.

"Re-entry" is hard for some folks. They should all stay home forever. More elbow room for the rest of us.

So he has two kinds of masks on him. Outdoors and indoors. This is beyond parody. This place need some alien invasion so badly.

This is really sad.

I feel sorry for people like this and know that so many more have embraced the absolute fear shoveled at them every day. These same people will embrace social credit and vax passports in their dire need to feel safe. And when you realize that – it is a massive repill.

It’s hard to believe the lengths these people have gone to in order to avoid what for the overwhelming majority of people under 65 is a nasty head cold

Beyond painful to read. And sad because I want to understand where men went.
I'm by no means some helpless little waif but I seriously do expect men to be strong & fearless. Not gutless wimps who are petrified to leave their house.
I know that's not very nice. Sorry.

To be fair, if you’re afraid of catching COVID-19, California is not a good place to be.
