That's a shame: The White House media Christmas party is 'just gone and it's not even a thing'

You might not remember this from a couple of Christmases ago, but CNN announced in late November that it would be boycotting the White House’s Christmas party for the media “in light of the president’s continued attacks on freedom of the press and CNN.”

CNN’s brave gesture didn’t matter the following year anyway, because in 2018 President Trump canceled the media Christmas party altogether. White House correspondents like April Ryan said weren’t planning on attending anyway; “I don’t break bread with people who don’t like me,” she tweeted. It’s a sad day when the press and the president don’t like each other, unlike when journalists were clapping like trained seals when President Obama did a literal “mic drop” at their nerd prom.

New York Times White House correspondent Annie Karni has noted the absence of a media Christmas party this year as well:

That’s right; we’d forgotten the White House had canceled its subscriptions to the New York Times and Washington Post. And now the media Christmas party isn’t even a thing.

“We are real news, Mr. President.” Now I’m going to cry on Twitter because I didn’t get called on.

Maybe President Sanders will throw a media bash at one of his homes and make the rich pay for it.
