You’d think Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, would be more concerned that Democratic leadership in the form of Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer have reduced Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s attempt to revise world history to a “GOP smear” and are calling for Republicans to apologize to her.
Instead, he seems more concerned that Republicans are “weaponizing” Tlaib’s own words by, you know, quoting them.
With regard to @RashidaTlaib's comments, 3 things can be true at the same time:
1) When any public figure makes comments about deeply sensitive issues, such as the horrors of the Holocaust, that are inaccurate or misinterpreted, it's appropriate to clarify/correct their remarks. https://t.co/xTUZts6krs
— Jonathan Greenblatt (@JGreenblattADL) May 13, 2019
She’s had all day to correct her remarks, but instead, she’s claiming the GOP is trying to silence her and retweeting support from notorious anti-Semites like the leadership of the Women’s March.
2) Palestinians did not provide “safe haven” to Jews post-Holocaust. They opposed the entry of Jews to Mandate-era Palestine and opposed the creation of a Jewish state alongside an Arab state.
— Jonathan Greenblatt (@JGreenblattADL) May 13, 2019
Again, she’s had all day to correct the record.
3) Nevertheless, it is not acceptable for elected leaders to weaponize others’ comments about Jews or the Holocaust for political gain. To move forward in fighting #antiSemitism, we must end the blame game. https://t.co/KCcCf5dzgf

So what is it you do at the ADL again?
What the hell happened to your balls, Jonathan? Did you trade them in for progressive credibility? https://t.co/9ODPoorarI
— Elliott Hamilton (@ElliottRHams) May 13, 2019
Everything she said was a blatant falsehood, designed to mislead people into thinking the Palestinians are innocent and even heroes in this, so it is perfectly acceptable to hold her to account for what she said. Give me a break. https://t.co/zCfe1Q0dvY
— Mo Mo (@molratty) May 14, 2019
She has taken no responsibility for the falsehoods, instead calling everyone who saw what she said for what it is a "racist." On no planet is it "unacceptable" to criticize her for these falsehoods. https://t.co/UgalEnyMF8
— Mo Mo (@molratty) May 14, 2019
Can you please explain the distinction between "weaponizing" comments and highlighting/holding people accountable to their statements?
— Matt Brooks (@mbrooksrjc) May 13, 2019
thats easy when you criticize a Democrat it’s weaponizing. Criticizing a Republican is holding people accountable for their statements. Thats why people shouldn’t donate to the ADL if they want to help an organization that cares about Jews.
— Jeff Dunetz (@yidwithlid) May 13, 2019
Jonathan, ffs, grow some balls. #Israel has invented a 3D printer to print hearts but I am sure some adjustments could be made.
— Dr. Arganot ?????? (@proctologistIL) May 13, 2019
This isn't what she did and you don't need to be wishy washy. Take a stand
— David Lebo (@leboism) May 13, 2019
Or we all can just be responsible for what comes out of our mouth and be held accountable
— ReadyPlayer2112 (@RPlayer2112) May 13, 2019
Alternate take: Believe it when people show you who they are. @TheDemocrats are openly antisemitic, as are many of their mouthpieces (NYTimes)

She bought the ticket. She can take the ride.
— White Chocolate (@rhodeislander) May 13, 2019
This isn't the blame game. It's reacting to another stupid ass statement from someone who represents US.
— Andy Spicer (@andyspicer) May 13, 2019
We can’t end the blame game if the ADL can’t stand up, for all of us, to anti Semitic comments from a member of Congress.
You’ve adopted the position of the press, which is to only respond when the right takes up the fight. Well, someone had to. You didn’t.
— Ben R (@BenR877) May 13, 2019
Weaponize? AYFKM? Rep Tlaib simply has to apologize and clarify that she was wrong. The only “weaponization” is by her enablers in the press and her party who try to silence the criticism of her for being ignorant at best, a raging anti-Semite at worst.
— BooToYou! (@boodad12) May 13, 2019
Please provide an example of a time when Democrats DIDN'T weaponize comments of any kind for political gain?
I hope Republicans don't cave to the bullshit of these Leftists who openly defend anti-Semitism in their ranks.
— Benjamin Wilson (@GentleBen187) May 13, 2019
Stop being a weak and pathetic organization.
You cannot speak for us Jews if you protect Tlaib and Omar.— Jimmy Levy (@JimmyLevy15) May 13, 2019
So if a politician is anti Semitic then we need to ignore it because that will make their political party look bad? That's moronic, if there is ANYONE that should be checked for their antisemitism it is elected officials and those who have power.
— Trey Best (@TreyBest6) May 13, 2019
Jon: you make about as much sense as you have hair on your head. That is to say: very little.
— Azor (@AzorInfo) May 14, 2019
Please sir, how is quoting a public figure's intentional statement "weaponizing?" This is not rhetorical. Are we responsible for what we say or not? And if we are, than is ignoring the implications of those statements a form of condescension? Sexism? Racism?
— cplaw (@cplaw) May 14, 2019
So disappointed at your weak support for the Jewish community. If you won’t vigorously defend us, nobody else will either. You should resign.
— Stacie Cohen (@stacieco13) May 13, 2019
Translation: when the anti-Semite is a Democrat, don't blame the person.
— Nickarama (@Nickarama1) May 13, 2019
I am unclear why “it is not acceptable” to hold people accountable for their “comments about Jews or he Holocaust.” I thought democracy was about holding elected officials accountable. You pejoratively call it “weaponizing,” but I thought it was just, you know, elections.
— Paul Collins (@pcollins1966) May 13, 2019
You are such a coward it hurts. Would somebody at the ADL hold this guy accountable and kick him out and replace him with a leader who will call out anti semites no matter what party they belong too
— Scout (@Scoutdomain) May 13, 2019
It's not necessary to defend somebody that repeatedly says insensitive and factually inaccurate things. And it's not incitement to simply quote somebody when they show their ignorance. It's cowardice to run from your own words.
— Kyle (@N7_Paratrooper) May 13, 2019
You have lost the plot, @JGreenblattADL.
What @RashidaTlaib said was false.
It doesn't matter if it were a Republican or a Democrat. The defense of these statements if an exercise in extreme partisanship.
— (((The Dispatcher))) (@becky_neiman) May 13, 2019
Have any Democrats in Congress even suggested to her that she “clarify” her words? She says “the truth will always win” … so what’s the truth here?
Policing my words, twisting & turning them to ignite vile attacks on me will not work. All of you who are trying to silence me will fail miserably. I will never allow you to take my words out of context to push your racist and hateful agenda. The truth will always win.
