New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal happily tweeted Wednesday that the Third Circuit Court of Appeals had upheld the state’s law banning “large capacity magazines” — i.e., magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.
This just in: for months, individuals have been challenging NJ’s limits on large capacity magazines—a sensible law to address mass shootings. Today, the court of appeals upheld the law. Big win for public safety and law enforcement safety! pic.twitter.com/xjc5B0x9H5

The Free Beacon’s Stephen Gutowski spelled out what the court’s decision likely means to New Jersey gun owners:
Third Circuit appeals court upholds New Jersey's magazine confiscation law. Untold numbers of law-abiding New Jersey residents will now either be forced to turn in their legally-purchased magazines or become felons. https://t.co/iaHb1gXsO6

Like most gun control of this kind, it's less likely police will go door to door to enforce the confiscation law and more likely it will be disproportionately used as a tack on charge to extend sentences of inner-city minorities brought up on other charges.

Still, if you posses a magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds in New Jersey after Monday, you're committing a felony. Even if you legally purchased it in New Jersey on Sunday. There's no grandfathering. It's straight up confiscation.

I haven't read the actual decision yet but here's a write up from The Hill with some excerpts. https://t.co/M5knrEyPx4

Lots of people in my mentions would like to see SCOTUS take this case up. That's always a possibility. However, they've been reluctant to take 2nd Amendment cases in the decade after Heller.
— Stephen Gutowski (@StephenGutowski) December 6, 2018
Only 4 justices need to agree to hear a case but even after Kavanaugh was seated they denied cert to a gun rights case earlier this year. Plus, generally, SCOTUS waits to weigh in until there's disagreement in the lower courts. Not sure if there is yet on magazine confiscation.
— Stephen Gutowski (@StephenGutowski) December 6, 2018
But that's more or less because New Jersey and California are the only states to go for a full confiscation scheme when regulating ammunition magazines. So, there isn't a ton of litigation out there on it.
— Stephen Gutowski (@StephenGutowski) December 6, 2018
There is no way the Supreme Court upholds this.
— EducatédHillbilly™ (@RobProvince) December 6, 2018
SCOTUS hasn't taken a gun rights case in years.
— Stephen Gutowski (@StephenGutowski) December 6, 2018
Let's hope the SC actually decides to take a 2A case for once.

Unbelievable. So the government is coming into our homes now and taking away personal property. And they call that “sensible”.
— Chas (@chas2117) December 7, 2018
As usual, this affects law-abiding citizens. Criminals couldn't care less.
— Red Tide (@TideInTejas) December 6, 2018
Not sure how limiting the freedoms of the law abiding will change anything for criminals, but go ahead, dream big. Too bad others are vilified for your dreaming though.

I’ll take the felon option every day of the week and twice on Sunday. #2A
— Drake McHugh (@AslanComm) December 6, 2018
I will be one of those felons, I travel with my firearm for protection and will not be reducing my magazine capacity for obvious reasons. I will not follow unconstitutional laws.
— PhilMurphysucks (@PMurphysucks) December 6, 2018
So, if I lived in NJ and did cowgirl shooting which requires large magazines to complete the obstacle course, I’d be a felon? wow, just wow
— Teresa ? (@meschief_55) December 6, 2018
Where is the proof that it will increase public safety. There is none.
— Mike (@woolang42) December 6, 2018
Wow. You know what the practical difference is between two 15 round and three 10 round mags, each holding 30 rounds? One two second reload to fire all 30 rounds. Mag limits only make sense to those who hate guns anyway.

NJ residents made their own bed. They have no one to blame for losing their 2A rights than themselves. They’ve routinely elected a leftist legislature who have pretty much stripped them of their rights. Try buying a firearm. Good luck. Carrying? Forget it.

Remind me to leave my AR-s at home the next time I vivist NJ, which will be never btw.

I'm from California, California does not recognize anything from any other state. Period. Cali marches to its own tune…
