As Twitchy reported earlier Tuesday, The Independent suggested that phrases like “bring home the bacon” could be banned to avoid offending vegans, and that “increased awareness of vegan issues will filter through consciousness to produce new modes of expression.”
We know that PETA, on another one of its misguided publicity stunts, is offering animal cruelty-free alternatives for several phrases, but we can’t think of a more apt one for PETA than “jumped the shark.”
Words matter, and as our understanding of social justice evolves, our language evolves along with it. Here’s how to remove speciesism from your daily conversations. pic.twitter.com/o67EbBA7H4

And in case you didn’t think they were serious, they’re comparing their effort to the clampdown on homophobic and racist language.
Just as it became unacceptable to use racist, homophobic, or ableist language, phrases that trivialize cruelty to animals will vanish as more people begin to appreciate animals for who they are and start ‘bringing home the bagels’ instead of the bacon.

We’re thinking it’s going to take a long time for “feed two birds with one scone” to catch on.
You can’t swing a dead cat on Twitter without running into a nest of vipers who want to alter, restrict our Free Speech. Get that bee out of your bonnet & stop badgering us to death with this.

Thank you. For years I feel like I've been running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to get people to be more sensitive to this important matter

I think we can be respectful of their concerns and find other ways to impart the same meanings without using those offensive words. After all, there is more than one way to skin a cat.

I love animals I truly do, I have worked at a veterinary hospital and volunteer at the animal shelter, I can say I like animals better than people, but those saying you come up with is utterly the most ridiculous thing I have ever ever heard, seriously Makes u sound like a wacko

I’ve been vegan since childhood and have seen other vegans – usually of the militant variety – do and say some really stupid stuff in that time. This is definitely the single most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen, vegan-related or otherwise.
