Shannon Watts wants CNN to air a State of the Union response from The Resistance

Moms Demand founder Shannon Watts is also chair of Rise to Run, an organization “focused on training and encouraging progressive high school girls and college-aged women to run for office.” Sounds ageist to us, but whatever.

On behalf of Rise to Run, Watts started a MoveOn.org petition a couple of days ago asking CNN to allow “The Resistance” to give an on-air response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address.

Her logic? Congresswoman Michele Bachmann was given airtime in 2011 on behalf of the Tea Party:

The Resistance is a bigger and more influential than the Tea Party ever was, and in 2011, CNN broadcast the Tea Party’s State of the Union response to a nationwide audience, saying, “The Tea Party has become a major force in American politics and within the Republican Party.”

The petition currently stands at just over 4,000 signatures. It’s kind of a dumb idea, which is why we wouldn’t be surprised if CNN jumps at the chance.

We’re actually a little bit in love with the idea, because nowhere in the petition is it mentioned exactly who would represent The Resistance on air. Rosie O’Donnell maybe? Linda Sarsour? Alyssa Milano? Rep. Ted Lieu in a pussy hat? Please, make it happen.

Who would you nominate to give the official response from The Resistance?
