Remember when MTV News decided to kick off 2017 with a video of New Year’s resolutions just for white guys? We’d link to the video, but MTV News had the good sense to take it down after a well deserved backlash.
It wasn’t really a resolution, but we do recall one of the social justice warriors in the spot declaring that Blue Lives Matter wasn’t a real thing. And yet, Newsweek claimed just this Thursday that it is indeed a real thing, and managed to capture the attention of the Law Enforcement Action Network.
Excuse me @Newsweek, how is #BlueLivesMatter a race based group? Or #AllLivesMatter? You got it backwards.https://t.co/8X4a3MEA3u

That characterization came in Newsweek’s report on a new Harvard-Harris survey that found 57 percent of voters have an unfavorable view of Black Lives Matter. Writer Janice Williams, in tracing the origins of the group, also clears up some confusion over George Zimmerman, whom the New York Times described in 2012 as a “white Hispanic.” In the Newsweek piece, he’s simply “a white man” who “cried self-defense” and “skated past murder charges.”
The survey found that 70 percent of voters said black-on-black crime in African-American communities was a bigger issue than police violence against African-Americans, which came in at 30 percent.

Both Blue Lives Matter and All Lives Matter rated a mention in the piece, although they are described as “law enforcement and race-related support groups” that presented “strong opposition” to Black Lives Matter.
All Lives Matter doesn’t sound like a race-related opposition group to us, but it probably would if we’d been treated to the same lecture that compelled former presidential candidate Martin O’Malley to apologize for saying, “Black lives matter, white lives matter, all lives matter” at a Netroots Nation panel.
How is this even news? Oh wait. It's not. More fake news designed to hurt race relations. Shame Newsweek. Shame.
