Story that Trump leaked classified info to Russia 'like a super crappy episode of 24,' says Senator

Not surprisingly, Democrats in Washington had plenty to say Monday night following the Washington Post’s story alleging that President Donald Trump revealed classified information to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during a White House visit last week.

Many called it careless and dangerous.

A few statements, though, were a little less conventional.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island thought the timing was right to bring up some Clinton scandals for comparison’s sake — probably not a good idea to revive those scandals (even in sanitized form) just when Hillary’s launching Onward Together.

Hmm … Whitehouse’s quotation marks around “classified” suggest his expertise on the subject is right up there with Hillary, who told the FBI she thought the (C) indicating emails were confidential was actually a way to put paragraphs in alphabetical order.

For what it’s worth, not everyone in the GOP is staying silent.

Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaii, who declared the country to be in nothing less than “a full-fledged constitutional crisis” following Trump’s firing of James Comey, took a different tack with Monday’s news.

Make up your minds, Democrats.
