It’s not often to find a story linked to 9/11 that is anything but painful to read, but this is one of those rare and welcome exceptions. The New York Police Department announced this week that the daughter of Sgt. Timothy Roy, who was killed on 9/11, has just joined the force herself at age 22.

POLICE Magazine reports that Brittney Thompson was just 7 when her father was killed; on Thursday, she was one of 474 recruits sworn in at the Police Academy in Queens to join the class’ six-month training program.
“Since I was very young, growing up in the police department, you really see the true heroes. … It’s just always been a dream to be one of them,” she said.
Best of luck to Brittney Roy joining police force after dad was killed on 9/11. Your father is proud. #NeverForget our 9/11 heroes. ⚫️?⚫️ https://t.co/wgbhc0S9bI
