Think twice about boarding that spaceship: Congressman seeks Bill Nye's help in getting to Mars

Rep. Don Beyer‏ of Virginia is not only a member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology; he also lists the hashtag #Science alongside #ClimateChange and #GunSense in his Twitter bio, so you know his credentials are legit.

Even though President Obama has left Washington, his pal Bill Nye, beloved TV host and perhaps America’s most celebrated mechanical engineer, is still hanging around in the corridors of power and met with Beyer to hash out plans to travel to Mars — it’s likely mankind’s best hope of survival once terrorists weaponize the moon and begin pummeling Earth with giant space rocks mined from its surface.

Nye, who is also a mover and shaker in the fashion world, also gave a thumbs-up to Beyer’s “Keep the EPA Great” hat. Not dumping a million gallons of toxic wastewater into the river would be a good start, if the EPA needs some help staying great.

That worth taking into consideration; at least let someone else design the actual spacecraft and let Nye put some stickers on it or take pictures of the lift-off on his TV or something.

As much as Democrats like to present themselves as the party of science, could they at the very least find a real live scientist to hang around with? Maybe “Mohawk science dude” from the Mars rover mission? He’s probably busy doing actual research, though.

P.S. We weren’t kidding about Nye being big in fashion circles, by the way.
