Whoopi 'Rape-Rape' Goldberg joins Lena Dunham, pioneer in comic use of sexual predator, in anti-Trump spot

Is it even possible to grow tired of pampered actors leaving behind the sets and costumes (not the hair and makeup artists, though) to stare earnestly into a camera and deliver a message straight from the heart, hopefully in no more than a handful of takes?

Nothing conveys sincerity like a single camera and a featureless white background, but dang, some of these celebs have taken a gray backdrop and really made it work.

It looks like extensive editing and post-production might have delayed the release of this one, though; weren’t the #TrumpTapes superseded by a torrent of sexual abuse allegations that were then superseded by Trump’s dangerous-yet-also-funny whining about rigged elections?

This isn’t to say that Trump’s hot mic comments were OK no matter the excuse. Still, there’s a serious casting problem here in the form of Lena Dunham, who has been a high-profile member of Team Hillary whenever the Democratic candidate has found it useful.

No less than Clinton herself taped an earnest entreaty that women be heard and believed, but Dunham found herself in an awkward situation when passages in her book detailing apparent molestation of her younger sister were heard and believed. Eventually she apologized for her “comic use of the term sexual predator,” so keep that in mind when she joins others in judging what is OK and not OK to say.

Dunham was also heard and believed when she wrote about being raped by “Barry,” described as “a mustachioed campus Republican” in purple cowboy boots. Her publisher, Random House, later said it regretted the confusion that led a man suspected of being Barry to retain an attorney.

And then there was the apology for that incident with Odell Beckham, Jr. for … never mind. And then there’s Amy Schumer, who … yeah, forget it. Oh, and Whoopi “Not Rape-Rape” Goldberg makes a cameo too.

Sexual assault is not OK — so why can’t the entertainment industry be serious and do a little house cleaning before hitting record next time?
