WSJ: Obama administration airlifted $400 million to Tehran in another, less publicized Iran deal

From now on, it looks like the administration will have to be more specific when it refers to the overwhelming success of the historic Iran deal. According to a report published by the Wall Street Journal Tuesday evening, the Obama administration secretly airlifted $400 million to Iran in January, which just happened to coincide with the release of four Americans.

The administration insists there was no quid pro quo, but who knows what’s going on there? As in the case of the lopsided Bowe Bergdahl swap, the White House showed it prefers to deal in Taliban detainees rather than cash.

As we recall, in 2014, several news outlets reported that the U.S government had threatened to prosecute the family of slain American journalist James Foley for funding terrorism if they paid Foley’s captors ransom money. The following year, though, the Obama administration announced a review of its hostage policies which cleared the way for families of hostages to pay ransom to the terror groups that had kidnapped them.

Don’t put IRAN in scare-caps like that — the United States and Iran are deal partners now.

It wasn’t a lie, just another secret that the most transparent administration in history wasn’t able to keep.

Update:

Something in this tweet tells us Sen. Marco Rubio isn’t buying that the exchange was coincidental.
