Just like Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin claims she always tries to do the right thing

Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and now vice chair of her presidential campaign, was deposed Tuesday in a civil lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch.

Judicial Watch summarized the findings from Abedin’s deposition on its website:

Abedin testified it was Clinton’s decision to use her non-state.gov email; to her knowledge that only Hillary Clinton, Abedin and Chelsea Clinton had accounts on the clintonemail.com system; and that the clintonemail.com system may have interfered with Mrs. Clinton’s ability to do her job.

Bryan Pagliano, the aide who set up Clinton’s private, non-secure email server, was deposed earlier this month and pleaded the Fifth 125 times. Abedin was a little more forthcoming, not necessarily offering any useful information, but noting that she always tried to to the right thing while working under Clinton at State.

The statement echoes Clinton’s answer to CBS News’ Scott Pelley, who asked her point blank in February, “Have you always told the truth?” “I’ve always tried to!” was the best Clinton could come up with on the spot. It seems Clinton and everyone around her are always trying to do the right thing — they’re just incapable of following through.

The Washington Examiner also noted that Clinton’s extremely unconventional email setup likely interfered with her work as Secretary of State. Abedin cited one instance in which Clinton missed a call from a foreign minister because aides never received her emails — which they almost certainly would have had they been sent from her official government email account and not the one she allegedly used to discuss private matters like her yoga routines.

The Washington Examiner further reports that Abedin “dismissed suggestions that the secretary’s private email address was unknown to the administration,” although as Twitchy noted a year ago, aide Cheryl Mills acted as a gatekeeper, in one email asking Clinton if it was OK to give out her [email protected] address to then-White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

A copy of Abedin’s deposition can be found in Judicial Watch’s document archive. Under Secretary for Management Patrick F. Kennedy testified Wednesday morning.
