Sen. Chris Murphy's post-filibuster gun control strategy: blame GOP for selling guns to ISIS

This is truly unbelievable. Despite having led a nearly 15-hour filibuster on gun control following a mass shooting at an Orlando nightclub by a man who called 911 during the slaughter and pledged his allegiance to [omitted], Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) still found something even more outrageous to say.

The Washington Post reported Monday that Murphy has a new strategy to sell the Democrats’ vision of gun control to the country and further demonize the NRA. By not agreeing to the Democrats’ gun control demands, Republicans and the NRA essentially sold Omar Mateen the gun that he used to shoot up the Pulse nightclub. (Once again, despite about a thousand stunt purchases by reporters, that gun was not an AR-15.)

That’s Murphy’s story and he’s sticking to it. In an interview with reporters, he announced:

“We’ve got to make this clear, constant case that Republicans have decided to sell weapons to ISIS,” Murphy said …. “That’s what they’ve decided to do. ISIS has decided that the assault weapon is the new airplane, and Republicans, in refusing to close the terror gap, refusing to pass bans on assault weapons, are allowing these weapons to get in the hands of potential lone-wolf attackers. We’ve got to make this connection and make it in very stark terms.”

Sorry, Elizabeth Warren and Jean Shaheen, but your feeble attempts Monday to politicize the Orlando terrorist attack pale in comparison to Murphy’s. You two stay on the beach and watch from a safe distance as Murphy jumps the shark.

Congratulations, Sen. Murphy.

Update:

Sorry, Sen. Warren, the prize for dumbest tweet by a Democrat senator has already been awarded, but try again tomorrow.
