Bernie Sanders tours West Baltimore, likens to 'third-world country'

Before Donald Trump broke the Internet by calling for a ban on Muslim immigration, America’s great moral dilemma was what to do with 10,000 Syrian refugees waiting to enter the United States.

You might remember that Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who provided safe spaces for participants in the great #BaltimoreUprising of 2015 to vent their frustrations, offered to welcome the refugees to her city, where many observers noted they’d feel right at home among the rubble.

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders dropped by West Baltimore today for a look at the neighborhood where Freddie Gray was arrested by six police officers who now face trial for his murder.

Baltimore Sun reporter John Fritze covered the event and noted that Sanders, who famously surrendered his campaign stop in Seattle to #BlackLivesMatters protesters who hijacked the podium, told a group of black pastors, “It is very expensive to be poor,” adding, “I didn’t see a decent grocery store around here. So what are moms feeding their kids?”

While we wouldn’t call CVS a decent grocery store, the reason Sanders didn’t see it is because it was looted and torched during the #BaltimoreUprising.

While Sanders’ concern was touching, we have to wonder how well his statement to reporters would have gone over were he a Republican.

Yep.

What party do those city leaders belong to again?

And risk not being invited by President Sanders to next year’s White House holiday party?
