We all know that the sensible gun control laws in effect in California — site of yesterday’s mass shooting that killed 14 — are working, because Sen. Barbara Boxer told us they are. Still, when the San Bernardino police and FBI gave their first press conference of the day this morning, they noted that the suspects in the Inland Regional Center attack had managed to acquire quite an arsenal despite those very gun laws.
Reporters and viewers seemed particularly curious about the number of rounds of ammunition suspect Syed Farook and his wife had managed to accumulate and had on their bodies when they were killed by police. (Police expended around 380 rounds in the final shootout.)
#SanBernardino shooters had more than 6,000 rounds of ammo, police say: https://t.co/DPjXxiQGy0 pic.twitter.com/g6y7peeYqt

They had 1600 rounds of ammo on them, available to them of various calibers.
We need to seriously talk about bullet control.

The #SanBernadino shooters had at least 5,000 rounds of ammo & no one knew. But the fed govt knows how much sinus medicine I've purchased.

6600 rounds of ammo! Who needs 6600 rounds and how does that not tip anyone off? Why is it easy to buy so much ammo? #SanBernadino

For the record, that's not a lot of rounds of ammo. But the pipe bombs? Yeah. 12 too many. https://t.co/pZzaXQeSgq

Emily Miller, investigative reporter and author of “Emily Gets Her Gun … But Obama Wants to Take Yours,” notes that it’s “very common, perfectly reasonable, and cost-effective” for a law-abiding shooter to order large quantities of ammo online.
FYI – 3,000 rounds of ammunition at home is not a sign of criminals. #SanBernardino I explained in my book: pic.twitter.com/BvFL5EKJxG

@EWErickson Got all the ammo I need. I practice policing up un-needed ammo from those who no longer have use for it.
