It was no secret before Wednesday night’s GOP presidential debate that candidates would be attacked for missing votes in the Senate while campaigning for president. Is that really a concern for the majority of the American public, or just Washington insiders?

@michaelscherer No, because the Senate votes are foregone conclusions generally. Are these votes for post office namings?

Former senior advisor to President Obama, Dan Pfeiffer, agreed in general, but singled out Sen. Marco Rubio for not just missing votes, but quitting.
@michaelscherer Probably not, but most of the field in 08 was senators. Also difference between missing votes and quitting, which Rubio did

@michaelscherer he said he gave up on the senate

It’s not a secret that Rubio is leaving the Senate. After Donald Trump questioned Rubio’s missed votes in the second Republican debate, Rubio explained that he was not running for re-election to the Senate but rather running for president. “I’m not missing votes because I’m on vacation,” Rubio told CNN. “I’m running for president so that the votes they take in the Senate are actually meaningful again.”
@michaelscherer what was Hillary absentee record? Obama? God the dems dont want to run vs. Rubio in worst way.. but this is lame

@JRubinBlogger @michaelscherer I don't think it is a big deal, but harder to navigate for Rubio than Obama/Clinton

Glad you asked.

Hillary 2007: 23%
Rubio 2015: 34%
Cruz 2015: 24%

1) Rubio missed meaningless votes 2) Rubio's done more in Senate than most: https://t.co/6lNn15fGtn 3) #GOPDebate pic.twitter.com/7X5DOxuGiq

Here was predictable Jeb attack on Rubio. Backfired as Rubio calls him out for exactly what he's doing and double standard. #CNBCGOPDebate

Duuuude. Rubio just ripped off Jeb's head and spat down his neck. #CNBCGOPDebate

Jeb put all his chips on that Rubio-missing-votes attack. He crapped out.
