Sen. Barbara Boxer calls for Speaker John Boehner to disband anti-Hillary Benghazi committee

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who has made it official that he’d like to take over for John Boehner as Speaker of the House when he resigns, got some Democratic blood boiling in an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity when he tied Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers to the Select Committee on Benghazi.

“Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right?” he told Hannity. “But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s untrustable.”

Democrats (or at least those supporting Clinton for president) were outraged at McCarthy’s “admission” that the whole Benghazi committee was just a tool to damage Clinton’s spotless reputation for being trustworthy and completely forthcoming. Sen. Barbara Boxer, in fact, has used McCarthy’s quote to demand that the Benghazi committee be disbanded.

Boxer’s letter gets right to the point; here’s the essential bit:

When we raise our right hand and are sworn into office, we pledge to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic – not to use our official positions to bring down a political opponent.

Now we know from an interview with Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy that the Benghazi Select Committee had everything to do with bringing down Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers. Here is the quote from Mr. McCarthy:

“Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping.”

Every American should be outraged by this politically motivated sham. It is time to disband this committee, which is clearly not focused on a tragedy but on a political smear campaign. I believe the Committee is an abuse of taxpayer funds.

If Boxer really wants to shut down the Benghazi committee, why doesn’t she just remind Boehner that we already tracked down the filmmaker behind that offensive anti-Muslim video and tossed him in jail, just as Clinton promised the families of those killed in that spontaneous attack?
