All-star group sings 'Love Song to the Earth' at DC climate rally, draws 199,800 fewer than expected [video]

As Twitchy reported, among those greeting Pope Francis in Washington, D.C., this morning were a group of PETA protesters dressed as nuns, some with beards and some walking on stilts — classy as always. The group was part of the Pope Francis Moral Action on Climate Justice Rally on the National Mall, which also attracted other “green” groups such as Greenpeace, the Earth Day Network, the League of Conservation Voters, and the Sierra Club.

Marc Morano of Climate Depot reports that organizers of the rally obtained a permit in August for 200,000 people, while liberal website ThinkProgress today reported that the rally attracted “hundreds.”

Tireless vegan scold Moby provided music for the rally, but the highlight was certainly a live celebrity performance of “Love Song to the Earth.” It turns out that girl we thought looked like Victoria Justice actually was Victoria Justice, accompanied on stage by Natasha Bedingfield, Christina Gimmie, Q’orianka Kilcher, and Sean Paul. Pope Francis might have been blocks away, but this is where climate change activists gathered to get religion.

Pause at 3:00 in (if you make it that far) to get a glimpse of the assembled masses. Word is that the solar-powered generator just couldn’t handle a rack of 15 Auto-Tune boxes, so keep that in mind.

“Love Song to the Earth,” featuring Paul McCartney, Jon Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow and more is available on iTunes, parked well south of the top 200 songs (unless there’s some special chart for novelty charity songs).
