At last we know the fate of James Holmes, who killed 12 and injured 70 others in a mass shooting at an Aurora, Colo., movie theater in July 2012. Frankly, a lot of people were hoping for the death penalty, but instead Holmes was sentenced to 12 lifetimes in prison, plus an additional 3,312 years for 70 convictions of attempted murder, and six years for an explosives charge.
3318 years plus 12 life sentences. That’s the absolute maximum sentence for #TheaterShooting murderer. http://t.co/VbWgLv6geQ

@CBSNews just hoping his life is every bit as painful as the lives of the family members of those he killed…otherwise, this isn't justice

@CBSNews that's too bad. Now he can revel in his glory of being a serial killer and watch his life turn into a movie. #shameful

For the judge to sentence Holmes to death, the jury would have had to unanimously agree that he should be given the death penalty.
@CBSNews It's crazy to imagine a sentence w/ 1 of the longest sentences ever-CRAZY, but considering jury couldn't decide on death penalty

@cnnbrk I think he should've been sentenced to life PLUS a punch in the face from each family member who lost a loved one-every single day.

After handing down the sentence, Judge Carlos A. Samour Jr. told deputies, “Get the defendant out of my courtroom, please.”
