As Twitchy reported, in its excitement to announce that the U.S. Embassy in Cuba would reopen as one of the first steps in normalizing relations with the country, the Obama administration forgot to mention one little tidbit from Reuters: “Cuban government says U.S. should return Guantanamo Bay military base to Cuban sovereignty.”
So, what does happen to Guantanamo Bay? According to the Wall Street Journal, the Pentagon has sent a team to Fort Leavenworth, Kan., to see if “a limited number” of detainees could be housed there.

@SalenaZitoTrib Why don't we just build a small prison in Alaska, north of the artic circle and keep them there.

@BoSnerdley @WSJ Am I missing something or did a Democrat Congress already formally bar Gitmo inmates from being transferred to the US?

Word is that Sen. Pat Roberts isn’t thrilled with the idea.
Read my statement on the Obama Administration's potential attempt to transfer #Gitmo prisoners to Ft. Leavenworth: http://t.co/gxxFbKydO9
— Senator Pat Roberts (@SenPatRoberts) August 14, 2015
Roberts released a statement Friday reading:
We have received reports of President Obama’s attempt to shut down Guantanamo Bay, which once again reflects another egregious overstep by this administration. Congress has consistently stopped Obama by law from moving a single detainee to the U.S. I shut down this administration’s nominee for Secretary of the Army in 2009 to prevent moving any detainees to Kansas and will do it again if necessary. Not on my watch will any terrorist be placed in Kansas.

Gov. Sam Brownback also tweeted his opposition to the transfer of prisoners.
