NBC News’ Capitol Hill reporter Luke Russert has weighed in Saturday night with a rather bold prediction: the GOP nomination is Gov. Scott Walker’s to lose if he plays it smart.
If he plays it smart, nomination is his to lose. Walker/Rubio ticket quite formidable. https://t.co/0brNGOVADv
— Luke Russert (@LukeRussert) May 30, 2015
Russert’s prediction comes after a Bloomberg/Des Moines Register poll which shows Walker leading the Republican field.
headline of new Bloomberg/ DMR poll: "Walker Dominates GOP Field”…. He is at 17%
— Sam Stein (@samstein) May 30, 2015
@samsteinhp A strong 17%, however.
— Michael Leiman (@mleiman1) May 30, 2015
That 17 percent number isn’t impressing many, despite the enthusiastic headline. Russert’s obviously thought this through carefully, but it doesn’t look like the public is convinced.
Sign of a fluid race: Leader in IOWA per new DMR/Bloomberg poll is Scott Walker.
He has all of 17%
— Jonathan Martin (@jmartNYT) May 30, 2015
@jmartNYT @halbfinger how fluid? Hasn’t Walker led in 6 of last 8 public polls, including the last DME/Bloomberg? http://t.co/iA6a1Ibozt

Not many are on board yet with Russert’s “formidable” Walker/Rubio ticket.

@LukeRussert If he's the best the R's have, they're a mess.

@LukeRussert my official prediction has been Rubio for the past year now
— US Rep Brendan Boyle (@RepBrendanBoyle) May 30, 2015
@RepBrendanBoyle kinda interchangeable with him and SW but poll data shows overwhelming preference towards govs
— Luke Russert (@LukeRussert) May 30, 2015
.@LukeRussert Neither has gravitas to be POTUS. A 'Bill-&-Ted' ticket is not going anywhere. And 'playing it smart' not an option for Walker
— Drew Dellinger (@drewdellinger) May 30, 2015
@LukeRussert Do you think they have a prayer?
— LaurasProminentPlay (@prominentplay) May 30, 2015
@prominentplay I think SW's strategy of going WI, MI, MN, OH, PA focus instead of CO, VA, FL in a general is smart gamble. So yes–chance

@Nick_Mancuso not crazy but I think she makes Latino or swing state play over Blue Dog. Bubba gets you Blue Dogs enough.
— Luke Russert (@LukeRussert) May 30, 2015
@LukeRussert nice point, so, perhaps a Castro brother?
— Nick Mancuso (@MancusoNR) May 30, 2015
@LukeRussert @DMRegister those boys will look like children next to Hillary. #lazio
— Inner Peas (@innerpeece) May 30, 2015
@LukeRussert This GOP field is one of the strangest multiple headed monsters our political process has ever seen!
— LaurasProminentPlay (@prominentplay) May 30, 2015
@LukeRussert @DMRegister HOW are people not seeing what he is doing to WI? He is an uneducated puppet. A Walker WH would be catastrophic.
— Jen Bussan (@jenbussan) May 30, 2015
@LukeRussert stop reporting on the "game", the horse race. Walker is a crook. There's a story for the nat'l media if you'll just WAKE UP.
— (((Daniel Timm))) (@dtimm53217) May 30, 2015
@LukeRussert Smh.
— AB ?☠️ (@THE1_AB) May 30, 2015
@LukeRussert in that GOP scenario, who is Hillary vp?
— Andrew (@andrew420115) May 30, 2015
@andrew420115 I think Kaine is VP if things stay the way they are.
— Luke Russert (@LukeRussert) May 30, 2015
@LukeRussert why is kaine the hotter name than Warner? Time at dnc?
— Andrew (@andrew420115) May 30, 2015
@andrew420115 fluent Spanish.
— Luke Russert (@LukeRussert) May 31, 2015
@LukeRussert @DMRegister when do the qualified candidates declare?
