Speaking to graduates at Tuskegee University in Alabama on Saturday, First Lady Michelle Obama confessed, in what CNN called “an impassioned and personal commencement speech,” that she suffered “a lot of sleepless nights” in 2008.

“As potentially the first African-American First Lady,” The Hill reports her as saying, “I was also the focus of another set of questions and speculations; conversations sometimes rooted in the fears and misperceptions of others. Was I too loud, or too angry, or too emasculating?”
