Though it’s the Baltimore Police who have been under direct attack by rioters for most of the day, other emergency responders have been placed in danger’s way as well, such as the firefighters contending with burning buildings and cars. And then there are the reporters and photographers on the ground who aren’t used to being targets.

Our photo editor Chris Assaf was just assaulted by a mob of looters while taking pictures on Howard Street

@ctassaf Jesus, Chris. Stay safe. Don't wanna see you on a crawl on CNN.

You might. I got nailed by some looters. https://t.co/9mKqMbsWS9

One of our photographers is at Mercy after getting jumped and attacked downtown; another reeks from 15 feet away of smoke from the fire

"People are not afraid of the police. They are emboldened." said a @baltimoresun reporter attacked earlier for his cell phone in Bmore.

Our friend & fellow mom reporter @petulad from @WashPostDC was attacked tonight in Baltimore. Thanks stranger who rescued awesome Petula!

Baltimore has a wave of kids marching, throwing rocks and bottles. Some knocked me down, kicked me, took my phone. Others picked me up.

A reporter was getting attacked by looters and was saved by a store owner wielding a shotgun. Just proves why we need the Second Amendment??

This reporter was attacked and robbed on camera on Saturday — “before” things turned violent.
A reporter from Europe tried to get in the middle of the protest. She got attacked and robbed. http://t.co/G7adr8AIEr

The next time someone insists the rioters are just “communicating” their frustration with racist police, remind them how much sympathy was shown for reporters who were caught up in the violence.
@Breaking911 @CNNewsCrew don't deserve that but you are partly responsible for the non-sense.

@jimspellmanTV there's nothing indicating a struggle here. No bruising, not a rock. Clean cuts. Looks more self inflicted or with help

@RomoOnAnimePC I feel no sympathy for him. They go out there to get a story for ratings. They do not care about WHY ppl are rioting.
— الجنة (@ogahj_) April 28, 2015
Stealing reporters’ equipment and driving them out of the city will certainly help people understand why people are rioting.
Now about those EMTs…
Rioters just threw a bottle at a passing ambulance
