Chelsea Clinton says her mother's election is 'important for symbolic reasons'

It looks as though Fox News analyst and 28-year CBS News veteran Bernard Goldberg has had a peek inside the May issue of ELLE magazine, which features an exclusive interview with Chelsea Clinton, herself a nearly three-year veteran of NBC News. Clinton has since left the news business and turned her focus to her work with the Clinton Foundation and to her mother’s campaign for president.

Hillary Clinton’s daughter says her mother should be crowned president of the United States because “it’s important for symbolic reasons.”

She’s not simply rooting for her mother, though; Chelsea told ELLE that the election of a woman as president is important for symbolic reasons:

… when you ask about the importance of having a woman president, absolutely it’s important, for, yes, symbolic reasons — symbols are important; it is important who and what we choose to elevate, and to celebrate. And one of our core values in this country is that we are the land of equal opportunity, but when equal hasn’t yet included gender, there is a fundamental challenge there that, I believe, having our first woman president — whenever that is— will help resolve.
