Washington Post presents this week's 'Ask Scott Walker' puzzler: Is Obama a Christian?

As far as we know, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest will be holding the usual daily briefing for the White House press corps on Monday. But what do you do if it’s a Saturday night and you must know right away if President Obama is a Christian? Apparently you ask Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, since he’s at hand and as a 2016 contender knows the president’s spiritual beliefs intimately.

Is the Washington Post serious with this stuff? The paper this evening posted an interview conducted with Walker today outside the National Governors Association, and the reporters apparently had only enough time to ask about President Obama’s religion. People demand to know, after all. “Some [unnamed] figures on the right have consistently questioned Obama’s faith,” wrote Dan Balz and Robert Costa, “with some [unnamed figures] suggesting suggested [sic] that he is a Muslim.”

Walker, who just happens to be a figure on the right, simply answered:

“I’ve actually never talked about it or I haven’t read about that,” Walker said, his voice calm and firm. “I’ve never asked him that,” he added. “You’ve asked me to make statements about people that I haven’t had a conversation with about that. How [could] I say if I know either of you are a Christian?”

“To me, this is a classic example of why people hate Washington and, increasingly, they dislike the press,” he said. “The things they care about don’t even remotely come close to what you’re asking about.”

In case some loser relative stuck you with a paper subscription to the Washington Post as a gag gift, the headline of the piece is, “Gov. Scott Walker: ‘I don’t know’ whether Obama is a Christian.”

Twitchy doesn’t have the staff that the Washington Post has at its disposal, but we did track down one of those figures on the right who questions Obama’s faith. Quite obviously, we don’t, based on President Obama’s impressive knowledge of the scriptures and ability to quote Bible verses about “throwing stones in glass houses” from memory.

We don’t know; ask the Washington Post.
