Attorney General Eric Holder (hasn’t he retired yet?) told the National Press Club Tuesday that “we’re not at a time of war,” which sent a shock of disbelief through social media.

Holder says 'We're not in a time of war'. Uh, yeah we are. The whole world is. Against Muslim extremists. Sooner we realize that the better.

Brian Fallon, director of public affairs at the Justice Department and spokesman for Holder, tweeted to clarify Holder’s remarks.

He meant akin to WWII. He absolutely does think we're at war w/ISIL MT @Mediaite Holder: 'We're Not at a Time of War' http://t.co/4bXI1VYGeB

Again, speaking to the National Press Club, Holder was apparently speaking of the role of journalists in war. “There is a question that members of the press should ask, about whether or not the disclosure of the information has a negative impact on the national security of the nation,” Holder said, using the hypothetical disclosure of the Manhattan Project in World War II as an “extreme example.”
So now that we know we’re “absolutely at war” with ISIS, can we stop treating the conflict like a jobs program for the Middle East?
