Several media outlets are reporting that two police officers in Brooklyn were critically injured when a lone gunman reportedly ambushed them in their patrol car and shot each officer.

New York Times police reporter J. David Goodman has the name of the suspect, which should be confirmed at a press conference soon. Reports that the shooter may have been a gang member involved in a murder in Baltimore are emerging.

The New York Daily News reports that the suspect’s name is Ismaaiyl Brinsley. Brinsley allegedly drove to New York City from Baltimore after wounding his girlfriend there. A member of her family told the Daily News Brinsley shot her in the stomach, but she was expected to survive.
