Breitbart: Publisher backs bus over Lena Dunham, 'regrets any confusion' over rape allegation

As Twitchy reported last week, a search for “Barry,” who, as recounted in her memoir “Not That Kind of Girl,” allegedly raped Lena Dunham in college, sent Breitbart.com’s John Nolte on a month-long investigation that turned up nothing but “pixie dust.”

“Breitbart News could not find a Republican named Barry who attended Oberlin during Dunham’s time there who came anywhere close to matching her description of him,” Nolte reported. “In fact, we could not find anyone who remembered any Oberlin Republican who matched Dunham’s colorful description.”

Nolte also reported that a certain “Barry One,” whom many fingered as Dunham’s rapist, had retained an attorney. That seems to have caught the attention of Random House, Dunham’s publisher, which reportedly paid Dunham an advance of around $3.7 million for her book.

Nolte reports that the publisher released a statement to The Wrap on Monday saying that Random House “regrets the confusion that has led attorney Aaron Minc to post on GoFundMe on behalf of his client, whose first name is Barry. We are offering to pay the fees Mr. Minc has billed his client to date. Our offer will allow Mr. Minc and his client to donate all of the crowd-funding raised to not-for-profit organizations assisting survivors of rape and sexual assault.”

A man dogged by false allegations of rape seems to have been exonerated at last. That’s the big story here, right? Right?

Business as usual, then. Breitbart remain the bad guys, but what of the woman who left “Barry” twisting in wind?
