PolitiFact rates false Obama's claim that his stance on executive amnesty 'hasn't changed'

Leftist tilt or not, the people behind PolitiFact had practically no choice but to award last year’s “Lie of the Year” to President Obama for his repeated promise, “If you like your plan, you can keep it.” In advance of the president’s executive amnesty speech tonight, PolitiFact has issued its judgement on the president’s claim that his position on immigration reform through executive action “hasn’t changed,” which earned the Liar of the Year an upgrade to “False.”

PolitiFact brings up the several instances where Obama told sympathetic audiences that he was neither a “king” or “emperor” who could make immigration reform happen with a wave of his scepter. Check out these remarks from a 2011 Univision town hall for a good laugh:

“With respect to the notion that I can just suspend deportations through executive order, that’s just not the case, because there are laws on the books that Congress has passed,” Obama said. “Congress passes the law. The executive branch’s job is to enforce and implement those laws. And then the judiciary has to interpret the laws.

“There are enough laws on the books by Congress that are very clear in terms of how we have to enforce our immigration system that for me to simply through executive order ignore those congressional mandates would not conform with my appropriate role as president.”

Extending the research a few years further back would almost certainly have burning trousers setting off smoke alarms.
