Writer of Kermit Gosnell movie: 'What was it American journalists couldn’t face, couldn’t report?'

Back in May, just a few days shy of their fundraising deadline, “FrackNation” directors Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney reached and surpassed their ambitious fundraising goal of $2.1 million to produce a TV movie about Philadelphia abortionist and convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell.

That project is moving ahead, and the Hollywood Reporter has announced that Andrew Klavan has been hired to write the film. Bestselling novelist Klavan’s book “True Crime” was made into a movie starring and directed by Clint Eastwood, and “Don’t Say a Word” made into a film starring Michael Douglas.

Klavan also wrote that controversial 2008 op-ed for the Wall Street Journal arguing that the Batman film “The Dark Knight” was “at some level a paean of praise to the fortitude and moral courage that has been shown by George W. Bush in this time of terror and war.”

Klavan’s interview with National Review’s Kathryn Jean Lopez appears today on NRO’s The Corner. Asked where the film will place Gosnell in history, Klavan responded:

Well, think about this. This is the worst serial killer in American history, but when he went on trial, the press section of the court room was empty. Why? What was it American journalists couldn’t face, couldn’t report? What was it they didn’t want you to know? Why did the state Department of Health ignore so many warnings and complaints? Why the conspiracy of silence? That’s the question I keep asking myself. I’m not looking for easy answers, or even any definitive answers. I just want to show what happened.
