An estimated 3,000 people rallied outside the state capitol in Albany this morning to protest the state’s SAFE Act, signed in January by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The legislation expanded the state’s existing assault weapons ban, prohibited semiautomatic pistols and rifles “with detachable magazines and one military-style feature, as well as semiautomatic shotguns with one military-style feature,” and limited high-capacity magazines from 10 bullets to seven.
TWC News notes that the rally is taking place just two weeks before the final deadline to register weapons under the SAFE Act. All semi-automatic assault weapons must be registered by April 15.
