'Not fiction nor funny': 'Gilligan's Island's' Dawn Wells not amused by Flight 370 Photoshop

Now that CNN is entertaining theories of black holes and “zombie planes” in its coverage of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, it’s almost too much to hope for some dignity for the 239 people on board and their families.

Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann on “Gilligan’s Island,” took exception to a Photoshop making the rounds and took the occasion to send her blessings and prayers to the families.

I need to address the picture that is on the internet of Gilligan, the Skipper, and the Professor, on the beach with a busted radio and the missing Malaysia plane behind them. While I understand the connection that we (castaways) disappeared without a trace and no one could find us, I know as well as you, our show was fictional and all in fun. The loss of flight 370 is not fiction nor funny. The picture circulating is very painful for those connected in any degree to the loss of flight 370. I cannot control what is on the internet, it’s out there. But, I can, and do, send my deepest sympathy to all those who are suffering from the loss of loved ones from this event. Blessings and prayers to those having to go through such a personal and painful experience.

Well said. Take note, CNN.
