As Twitchy reported, rock icon Lou Reed passed away Sunday at the age of 71. Condolences came pouring in, but for some reason, many of them were directed to the family of Lou Bega, the singer who hit the charts in 1999 with his cover of “Mambo No. 5.”
Not only is Bega alive and well; he posted a notice to Facebook to straighten out the situation:
R.I.P Lou Reed the Genius who took Walks on the Wild side.
Ps: i have been receiving Tons of condolences because of a Journalist confusing our Identities. Lou Bega sends his condolences to mr.Reeds Family.
Really need to know the identity of the journo who confused Lou Bega for Lou Reed. A credit to the profession. pic.twitter.com/un6Khf9aJL

That wasn’t enough to stop to momentum, though.
RIP Lou Bega, I know you're up in heaven teaching God a little something about mambo no. 5.

#RIP Lou Bega. Before iPods I used to stay up past my curfew listening to the radio for that night's top ten so I could hear "Mambo No. 5"

I just saw someone tweet out "RIP Lou Reed" with a picture of Lou Bega, so that's pretty much the worst thing ever.

Those people mixing up Lou Reed and Lou Bega better not be writing prescriptions when they grow up. I don't even want them making fast food.
