We’d give Jesse Jackson an award for being first to trace the current government shutdown back to the Civil War and slavery, but that trophy has already gone to comedian and former Current TV host John Fugelsang, who said essentially the same thing last week.

There’s also a good possibility that the current showdown between the House GOP and the president has nothing to do with the Confederacy and everything to do with trillions in debt and the economic train wreck that is Obamacare.
