It’s nice to hear Vice President Joe Biden lay off of the “black helicopter crowd” (Second Amendment advocates) and branch out a bit. Tonight at an event marking the 19th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act, Biden warned the audience he was going to say something outrageous — not that anyone was caught by surprise. He then blamed “this sort of Neanderthal crowd” in the House who let VAWA expire at the end of the year. (A five-year reauthorization then passed in March.)
Lost in the fiction is the fact that the Neanderthals running the GOP-led House were prepared to renew VAWA on schedule, but Democrats insisted on adding explicit new protections for LGBT, immigrant and Native American women.

It does seem a strange way to drum up support for that authorization of force in Syria the White House seems to want so badly. Perhaps Biden’s counting on Neanderthals in the House to club Assad into submission.
