Catholic Online today posted what it says is video of Syrian terrorists beheading a Catholic priest they accused of conspiring with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The Vatican confirmed that Father Francois Murad was killed June 23 in an attack on a monastery in Gassanieh, in northern Syria.

Just a week before the attack, Sen. Cruz had zinged the administration in a tweet asking “if President Obama intends to perform background checks on the Syrian rebels before providing them weapons.” Cruz’ Facebook post tonight read:

A grim reminder of why we should not give arms to these people, and why it is so important they do not gain access to Assad’s chemical weapons stockpiles.
