An explosion (or explosions) heard for miles in Lebanon overnight sent many scrambling to social media for some sort of news, but for now the source of the sound remains a mystery. Theories now range from a rocket attack to a blown fuse at a power plant. Thunder? Aliens?

TV news in Lebanon seems to be following in the footsteps of CNN Turk, which skipped covering violent street protests in favor of a penguin documentary.
Why the hell TVs aren't saying anything? LBC is showing Arab Idol and poker on MTV! #Lebanon

We’re guilty of complaining about the 24-hour news cycle in the United States, but at times like these it’s nice to have someone at the controls.
@Almayadeennews a huge explosion heard in #lebanon, can u plz give us feedbacks? Our local news media are on coma !

#Lebanese media (TV stations) close their news department around midnight, so no one can report anything yet #Lebanon

This sounds at least as good as MTV Poker:
New reality TV show in #Lebanon: Guessing what was behind that explosion/rocket/whatever is happening in #Beirut. Good luck!

Update:
We still don’t have the “official” word from Lebanon, but witnesses are convinced it was just a blown transformer at a power station.
The "explosion" sound people have been tweeting about was just an electric current that exploded… @KarimYaacoub and I saw it happening-_-

Apparently it's not a missile, a bomb, or a tire, but some power cable explosion. This just shows how anxious we are in Lebanon these days.
