The Washington Free Beacon this week shared the story of a conservative nonprofit group that applied for tax-exempt status with the IRS only to wait nearly a year for a response. The group resubmitted its application under a more innocuous name and watched in amazement as its application sailed through the approval process in three weeks. We’ve learned that the words “tea party” and “patriot” were all it took to flag an application for special review, so what “safe” name did the group settle on? Unfortunately, we don’t know — as the source told the Beacon, “I’m afraid to go on the record because of what the IRS might do to my group”
Fortunately, Twitter has stepped up to provide a wide selection of #SafeC4Names that will ensure your application to become a 501(c)4 is approved. You might even get an unsolicited grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
